When Estero pioneer Vicki Fernandez drove a university bus and dabbled in art she by no means would have imaged that her work would one working day be turned into notecards that are now featured in the Estero Historical Society¡¯s new present shop. Volunteers not long ago opened a reward store and required to obtain regional items with which means to promote.

¡°She beloved to draw,¡± explained Marlene Fernandez, a volunteer at the historical culture and sister-in-law to Vicki. ¡°She drove a university bus, but her pastime was art. She would display the college students on the bus the photos she drew of early Estero. The children preferred to find out. So, she taught them in her dwelling, inevitably so numerous needed to find out that she got permission from the Methodist Church to teach there. Then she started training grown ups as well, and that is how the Estero Art League evolved.¡±

Five of her paintings depicting bouquets, fruit and holiday getaway scenes have been printed as notecards that are for sale. The Estero Historic Society is calling it ¡°Back Porch Art.¡±

¡°It¡¯s a fundraiser and it is a thing from Estero and everybody requirements a notecard someday,¡± Marlene Fernandez reported.

Estelle ¡°Vicki¡± Fernandez was born Aug. 18, 1927, in Ga, but lived most of her lifestyle in Estero right up until she died in January 2001 at age 83.

¡°In her middle age she went back again to college and acquired her GED so she could get a career driving young children to school,¡± Marlene Fernandez explained.

A package deal of five notecards expenses $5. A cookbook by pioneer Evelyn Horne is for sale for $10. There are also donated items from outdated Estero in the gift shop.
